Measures
Each measure is one kind of value you can request, using its id.
| Measure | Unit | Combining areas |
|---|---|---|
Median house price paidhouse-price-median | GBP | Not combined |
“Adds up” means you can total it over areas or convert it to other areas. See Measures and periods for why some can't be combined.
Areas and years
Request each of these with its geography and code year as geography and boundaryYear.
| Areas | Code year | Periods | Covers | Records |

| Wards | 2020 | 1995 to 2022 | England and Wales | 8,048 |
Things to know
- Each period is the year ending December of that year. The source is a quarterly rolling series whose last edition ends at March 2023; that partial year is not comparable and is not published here.
- The publisher's ward codes are mostly December 2020 codes. Temple Newsam's later source code is corrected to its geometrically identical December 2020 code and retained as sourceAreaCode; Garforth & Swillington changed geometry, so its later source code remains unresolved rather than being remapped.
- Medians of an even number of sales fall on a half penny in the workbook; values are rounded to the whole pound the publisher displays.
- A median of ward medians is not the median of the underlying sales, and no weight recovers it. Combining areas needs the sales themselves, which this source does not publish.
Corrections and improvements
These reviewed changes apply to what the API serves for this data. The publisher's source files are not changed; when a code correction applies, the served record retains the publisher's code as sourceAreaCode.
| Change | What the API serves | Applies when |
|---|---|---|
| Temple Newsam ward-code repair | The API serves the unchanged value under December 2020 code E05011412 and retains E05013831 as sourceAreaCode. | GET /v1/data/house-price-median?period={period}&geography=ward&boundaryYear=2020 |
| Opt-in canonical measure-unit presentation | On the explicit canonical request, each numeric value and any publisher-supplied interval bound is multiplied by the measure's declared scale; the response names the resulting unit and calculation. | GET /v1/data/{measure-id}?units=canonical |

Downloads
Download complete publisher-observation files instead of paging through the API. Each file has a stable hash and covers one measure, period set and source geography. Any reviewed served code correction is documented and retains its publisher code on the affected record. The source and licence information above applies to these files too; preserve the attribution and note any cleaning or reformatting when you redistribute one.
